Portable C/C++ code is hard

Timothy Wright  — 1 year, 8 months ago

I've yet to get the build working for anyone but me. If you have any experience with this or some resources I would love some opinions.

Been Busy

Timothy Wright  — 1 year, 9 months ago
Been busy working on this but still not a lot to show. I recently figured out a great way to test if this stuff is usable by trying to recreate all of the Unity tutorials using the engine. It has exposed a lot of stuff I forgot about adding.

Still working on it...
(not that anyone seems to care...)

Ideas for libraries

Timothy Wright  — 1 year, 11 months ago
I've been thinking a lot about libraries, and single-header-files, and APIs, and I really need a hobby. I have an idea for a new kind of library, and am implementing it for a simple JSON parser because: there isn't a simple stb style parser, and its a small problem that is easy to test.

Also, I need one, so there's that. :-)

Fighting with random bugs

Timothy Wright  — 2 years, 6 months ago
I have been fighting with a weird bug that reloads a script while the game is running, but OpenGL is crashing randomly. Something about the buffers being released/recreated is causing it, but I've been unable to figure it out.

I will have updates to the squirrel utility, and the font rendering soon. If anyone is interested, I'll commit what I've got now, otherwise I want to fix this stupid bug first.

I'm not doing a good job of following my KISS principle

Updates are coming

Timothy Wright  — 2 years, 6 months ago
I've been doing a lot of coding with the header files, working out the kinks and fixing the text rendering stuff. There were some nasty bugs in there that have been fixed. The vector library is working but needs fixes to the data structures to make them more usable.

The squirrel utility is really working out nicely. I've got realtime updates to the C/C++ code while it is running. It is fun to change the script and watch the changes happen right away. It's the only way I know to make accidental discoveries on purpose.

I've been on a mini-sabbatical for the last two months, trying to get over burnout. Looks like things are getting better, and I'm ready to get back at the code.

I've been working on an stb-style vector library, and will be adding that to the KISS Engine soon. I also have a simple bitmap font generator/renderer that needs to be converted from C++ to pure C, to stick with the "stb" mindset.
